Gulbahar Singh - the Filmmaker.

Mr. Gulbahar Singh,Sikh, a graduate, resides in Kolkata,  made his first film “weeds” in 1980 since then he made number of films. He is a prolific filmmaker renowned for his versatality.He has made many films in Hindi, English, Bengali and also Punjabi . He has been the recipient of prestigious National and International awards for his films time and again.

Filmography:

 He  has won national awards in 1986 for his film “ANUKARAN” and “Biotechnology; some possibilities” in 1992. He made a long documentary on life,times and works  of the noted Hindi writer   Munshi Premchand  for Doordarshan. A feature film financed by NFDC, “Sundari” ( Hindi) was shown in Calcutta Film Festival and also shown in Sochi International Film Festival, received diploma for participation.

 A film “Bheet”(Bengali) has own National Award in 44th National Film Festival as best film on Family Welfare and “ Gotipua” won special mention in the 45th National Film Festival. Besides all these he has made many telefilms and short teleserials on various subjects.

A children’s film “The Goal” produced by Children's Film Society, India has won the Golden Lotus Award in the 47th National Film Festival.

 

The same also received the Special Jury Award in the 11th Cairo International Children Film Festival, Special Mention of Jury at the International Federation of Film Societies, IIFS at the festival at Zlin ( Check Republic)  at 2001. It was also selected in the Indian Panorama in 2001 and participated in Golden Elephant Children Film Festival in 2001. “Dattak” (The Adopted) a feature film for NFDC starring Rajit Kapoor and A. K. Hangal participated in the 5th  Sanghai  International Film Festival as the only entry from India, in the Hawaii International Film Festival and in the 20th Fajr International Film Festival, Teheran (Iran).

Another film by the legendary film maker, “ Abaidha”(Bengali) ( The Demolition Man) has been released recently which  has created waves of sensation among the film lovers.
